How To Create A Beautiful Indian Sunset Scenery

STEP 1

We'll use the picture of the sunset provided by Lelaina, member of pxleyes for this tutorial. (Thank you Lelaina).

If you did not download the picture from the link provided for you. Do the following:

Click on the right side of your mouse.

When the window opens, Save As.

Give the file a name.

Save it in a place where you can have access to it, as we'll be working with it.

Open the picture of the sky to start your work. Change the name of layer, instead of "Background", name it, "Sky 1".

STEP 2

We will delete areas that we do not want in the picture.

Delete the area from the right side of the picture of the sunset.

Delete the dark area at the bottom of the picure of the sunset.

Our goal is to leave the beauty of the sky by itself.

STEP 3

This is the result you should have now.

As you can see, the sky looks more beautiful.

STEP 4

Make a copy of layer, "Sky 1". Name new layer, "Sky 2".

Make layer, "Sky 1" inactive. (close the eye located to the left side of the layer).

Make a rectangular selection over layer "Sky 2".

Use the Marquee Tool (M), and make a rectangular selection of the top area of the sky.

With the area selected, press the Backspace or Delete key.

You'll have something like this.

STEP 5

Rotate layer, "Sky 2".

Edit - Transform - Rotate 180 degrees.

Flip Horizontal.

If there are any areas that you want to erase, there where the two images overlap, do it, just be careful in your erasing, the image of the sky has to look nice.

STEP 6

Merge the layers, "Sky 1", and "Sky 2" together. Name new layer, "Sky".

This is the image of the hills, also provided by Lelaina. (Thank you).

If you did not download this image from the link provided for you, do the following:

Click over the image of the hills with the right side of your mouse.

When window opens: Save As.

Give the file a name.

Save it in a place where you can have access to it.

STEP 7

Name new layer, "Hills". Open this layer.

As you can see, the image of the hills is smaller than the picture of the sky.

Use the Transform Tool (Ctrl + T), to make the picture bigger. It does not matter if the picture of the hills, overlap the picture of the sky.

STEP 8

This is the way the two layers with the pictures should look.

STEP 9

You can mask the sky out from the layer, "Hills".

STEP 10

Make the layer, "Sky" inactive, or click over the eye, located to the left side of this layer.

Your image should look like this.

STEP 11

We'll give the hills more color and some highlights.

For highlights:

Edit - Adjustments - Curves.

Input: 100
Output: 50

For color:

Edit - Adjustments - Color Balance.

Midtones: Red + 60
Highlights: Red + 10, Yellow - 10
Shadows: Red + 10, Yellow - 10

STEP 12

Bring the layer "Sky" back.

You'll work over layer, "Hills".

You will give a darker look to the hills, as I did. It worked well for me to do this. It will depend in the brightness and resolution of your screen, to get a sharp and detail image. If you think the hills look nice for you, do not do the following changes.

Image - Adjustments - Curves.

Input: 200
Output: 100

STEP 13

This is the picture of the teepee we'll use for our work. The picture was provided by pxleyes for a contest.

To download the picture:

Click over the right side of your mouse.

When window opens: Save Image As.

Give the file a name.

Save it in a place where you can have access to it.

STEP 14

Open a new layer with the image of the teepee.

Name new layer, "Teepee 1".

Start masking the teepee as best as you can.

STEP 15

This is the way the teepee should look.

STEP 16

Use a 100 px soft brush. With the Burn Tool (O), start burning the left side of the teepee.

As this will be your shaded area, try not to burn it much.

Using the Dodge Tool (O), and the same brush size, start dodging the right side of the teepee. It will give the look of a highlighted area.

STEP 17

Bring the layer, "Teepee 1" above layers, "Hills", and "Sky".

Open a new layer, name it, "Paint".

With a 45 px soft brush, get some colors from around the sun.

Start painting with a 50% Opacity, from the right side, to the middle area of the teepee. This will give the teepee a reflection of the sunlight.

STEP 18

Make two more copies of the layer, "Teepee 1".

Drag the layer to the "Create a new layer" button, located at the bottom of the layers column. This will create a copy of layer, "Teepee 1". Name new layer, "Teepee 2". Do the same again, and this time name new layer, "Teepee 3".

Use the Transform Tool (Ctrl + T) to make the teepees smaller. Place them as it is shown in the image.

Using the Dodge Tool (O) to smooth the darkness of the teepee that is in the middle. Use the Burn Tool (O) to darken the teepee to the right. It will be darker as it is placed against the sun.

STEP 19

For the shadows:

"Teepee 1", and "Teepee 3", (smaller teepee).

Use a 45 px soft brush. Opacity of 70%. Paint over a new layer, name layer, "Shadows".

For layer, "Teepee 2", (located at the right side of the picture). Make a copy of this layer. Do not name the new layer. Select the layer, (selection has to be on).

Fill the selection with black.

Edit - Transform - Rotate 180 degrees.

Edit - Transform - Flip Horizontal.

Reduce the opacity for the shadow, to 75%.

Your shadows are done! You can merge the layers, "Teepee1", "Teepee 2", and "Teepee 3" together to form one layer. Name it "Teepees". The layers with "Shadows" can be merged down to the other layer named, "Teepees". Do not change the name again, leave it as it is.

In this way, you'll have only three layers. "Sky", "Hills" and "Teepees".

STEP 20
